Compassionate Collaborative Care
Pain is inevitable.
Suffering isn’t.
Is life a struggle? Do you feel “hopeless” or “broken,” like there’s something wrong with you? Are you tired of receiving advice from others that either doesn’t work or that you can’t seem to put into action? Is it hard to even think about what you want in life, let alone move towards it?
Often the problem isn’t that we aren’t trying hard enough but rather that what we’re doing simply doesn’t work. My goal is to help people discover what works—for them. I strive to help people relate to their struggles in ways that allow them to expand their options and make choices based on what’s important to them. For people who have lost their direction, I offer ways of helping explore valued directions and choices. Meaningful living doesn’t need to take months or years to discover. It’s never too late to learn how to live a life of vitality.
As a licensed psychologist and counselor, I help people notice what’s keeping them stuck and discover ways to live their lives more effectively. I don’t have the answers, but I can help you discover what works for you. I value creating an atmosphere of safety and respect, a place where people can take risks and gently lean into places that feel uncomfortable. In short, I strive to create an environment of compassionate collaborative care.
I draw from what is called evidence-based practice. What this means is that I have studied and continue to study the research literature about what works for whom. This gives me a broad base from which to help our exploration. I can offer structured or unstructured treatment depending on your needs and goals. My aim is to help people learn to live their lives more effectively and to develop the skills to continue learning without me.
The main treatment I draw from is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which I have chosen for its flexibility, compassionate stance, and commitment to scientific scrutiny. I continue to challenge myself through research, training, and writing, to further expand my own knowledge and skills.
A specialty of mine is working with those who have a history of trauma, but I am also experienced in treating a wide variety of struggles such as anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, substance use problems, and relationship or interpersonal difficulties.
Feel free to contact me if you’d like to begin to explore a life that meaningful, or if you’d simply like to know more.
